Adding to the thermal load of your cooling systems are transmission coolers, air conditioning condensers, engine oil coolers and power steering coolers. Inter coolers from turbocharged systems may also be placed in front of your radiator. When you tow a trailer with your vehicle this may cause the transmission to run hotter transferring more heat into your cooling system. Certain road conditions may attribute to plugging up the air flow through your radiator. Dirt roads, mud, snow even the fuzz from trees can get trapped in your cooling fins.

Today’s engines consist of many dissimilar metals (aluminum cylinder heads and cast iron blocks), this causes different contraction and expansion rates of your parts. This can cause gasket failures. Keeping your coolant system clean on the outside and the inside can limit the potential for damage.

Coolants can become acidic and corrosive from many kilometers of driving and heat cycles. This change in the PH level may then cause leaks to occur in radiators, heater cores, water pumps, block heaters, intake manifold gaskets and cylinder head gaskets. Hoses which appear look good on the outside, crack and blister from the inside where it is not visible causing failure.

As your engine ages the material worn from continuous fluid movement may cause restrictions in your heater core and internal engine coolant passages.

To prevent unexpected breakdowns and failures resulting in costly repairs Best Choice Automotive will visually inspect the external components of your coolant system for any air flow restrictions. Some vehicles require parts removal to access and wash out the restricted coolers. Then we will test and inspect the fluid for strength and cleanliness. Recommend if required, a complete coolant flush. We will install a coolant system cleaner and run engine up to operating temperatures to maximize cleaning then flush entire system, installing fresh coolant with a conditioner to help maintain your system.
