Your vehicle’s air conditioning and heating systems are the main contributors to your driving comfort. The complexity of the temperature control systems in the modern car has the ability heat or cool not only the driver, but allows for separate cooling and heating of the passengers, regardless if they are in the front or rear of the vehicle. All of this even if it is +30 or -30 degrees outside, your vehicle has the ability to keep you at the settings that are the most comfortable for you.
These heating and cooling temperatures are adjusted by controls that may be operated by cables, vacuum or electrical switches and motors. Fan speeds are controlled by switches and resistors. They have the ability to heat up, or start cool air flowing. This air flow can also be directed to numerous outlets, to defrost your windshield, warm your feet or send air to the interior. Cabin air filters are common in a large segment of today’s cars and must be replaced on a regular basis to keep the air flowing at maximum efficiency.
The car’s air conditioning system is on during your defrost settings, this is done to remove moisture and dehumidify the air for faster clearing of the windshield.

Harsh Weather Conditions in Edmonton = Automotive Heating & Air Conditioning Breakdowns
Keeping your coolant clean, as the passages in your heater core are the smallest ones in your car, is a major factor in attaining maximum heat out of your system. Deposits from the engine can get caught and restrict the flow of coolant reducing the heat output of your heater core. Flushing your coolant system every two years may prevent a costly repair bill of replacing the heater core.

If you are experiencing poor heat or no heat, not enough cold air, or low air flow, or blend doors that do not send the air where you want it. Best Choice Automotive will confirm that the thermostat and engine temperatures are operating as required. We will Inspect your cabin air filter to check that it is not plugged. We will then check the difference of temperature degrees in the inlet and outlet hoses of your heater core to determine if there is a restriction. Heater control and blend operation will be verified. Equipment may be required to be installed to check the air conditioning system for pressures and operation. We also check blower motor and speed settings to ensure proper function.
A system that blows hot air, then cold air, may also be caused by low levels of coolant due to a leak in the system, or may be indicative of a head gasket problem in the engine. Best Choice Automotive can pressure-test and visually inspect your engine for any signs of leakage. We may also perform a chemical test to determine the potential of a head gasket leak in your motor if no external signs of leakage are located.
