Power Steering RepairA proper front-end inspection involves a road test to check for pulling, steering wheel center, handling feel, and listening for any unusual noises. Then your vehicle it is brought in for a visual and physical check of the following parts; rack and pinion unit or steering box (for play or leakage), upper and lower ball joints (for play or looseness), inner and outer tie rods (for play or looseness), idler and pitman arms (for play), center links (for play), control arm bushings (for play or tears), sway bar bushings and link ends (for play or breakage). We also check the power steering belt, inspect the power steering pump and hoses for leakage, check steering coupler movement, and confirm that no wheel bearing or hub assembly has play or is noisy during road test.

A problem in the suspension system can cause poor handling and loss of control. There are many different types of suspensions. These are a few of the different type of configurations: Macpherson strut suspensions, leaf spring suspensions, air ride suspensions, coil spring suspensions, transverse leaf suspensions, torsion bar suspensions, electronic shocks, or a combination of one or more of these combined, depending on the manufactures preference.
An inspection of these systems involves looking for broken or cracked coil or leaf springs, leaking or rusted shocks and struts, noisy or sticky upper strut mount plates and bearing plates, compressor operation in auto-leveling air ride springs, leaks in air lines, as well as play or wear in the strut control arms.

Suspension Problem Symptoms
